Key Takeaways from Domopalooza 2024

I had the joy of attending Domopalooza 2024 last week. Despite having worked in Domo for over four years, this was my first in-person Domopalooza, and it did not disappoint! I enjoyed spending time with fellow Domo users, learning about how others are leveraging their data to the fullest within the platform, and hearing about exciting new feature releases.

The image shows a slide from the Domopalooza 2024 Main Session with a quote from a Domo user that says "Data is our most important asset. Domo is how we take data and translate it into value."

Now that I’ve returned to my desk in Richmond, I’ve been reflecting about what comes next. How can I (and other Domopalooza attendees) bring back the learnings of DP24 to organizations we work with? How can we translate it into better Domo usage moving forward?

Here’s the four key takeaways that I’m thinking about this week post Domopalooza.

1. Take advantage of new features now

Domo made some incredible features available during Domopalooza, including App Studio, nested calculations in Beast Mode, enhancements to Analyzer, and many more. (You can find the full list of new features here.) With these features fresh in mind, now is a great time to begin to utilize these new capabilities in your day-to-day work processes. As you get started, consider checking out our guides to App Studio and Beast Mode.

2. Prepare to take advantage of future features

In addition to the already released new features, Domo showed us some incredible sneaks, such as the Domo.AI Chat and Magic ETL enhancements. To fully leverage these features, start planning now how your organization will use them. Consider what you can set up now to ensure effective adoption.

For example, to take full advantage of Domo.AI Chat, having a data dictionary that clearly identifies what the fields in your data represent will be crucial. By creating the data dictionary now, your team will be able to fully use Domo.AI Chat when it is released.

Can’t wait to get a hold of these future features? Joining a Domo beta program can be a great way to trial a new feature early.

3. Share out learnings

Domopalooza provided an abundance of learnings in keynotes, breakout sessions, and conversations with fellow Domo users. As we return to our teams, sharing out those learnings will be critical to ensure that they are used to the fullest. For example, sharing information about how ESPN leveraged Domo to analyze sentiment may spark new ideas within your marketing team on how feedback can be analyzed within your company.

Even in cases where there is not an obvious departmental link to the information that was shared, the combined wisdom of the teams you work with can help you apply learnings effectively. Starting a Slack channel or a Google Doc is a great way to facilitate this process.

4. Connect with those who can help along the way

Being back in person at Domopalooza this year allowed for lots of wonderful knowledge sharing between Domo users. Until the next in person gathering, using the virtual world (Slacks, emails, LinkedIn, etc.) to remain connected can allow us to keep the power of the Domo community going.
